Hunt Info

Our “Sunnyside” hunts take place on approximately 30,000 acres, (over 45 square miles!) of magnificent private property near Burns, Colorado. This hunt offers our clients the very unique opportunity to participate in Colorado’s Ranching for Wildlife Program, a very special wildlife management program available to a few select private Ranches in Colorado. Under the guidelines of the R.F.W. program, we are able to set our own hunting seasons, we can guarantee our clients hunting licenses, and establish our own objectives in relation to managing the wildlife on the ranch for overall health and quality. We have the unique ability to offer rifle hunts during the peak of the rut for both bugling bull elk and monster mule deer bucks. Since 2002, our clients have had a nearly 95% opportunity to harvest bull elk, and a 100% opportunity on mule deer bucks. The ranch is located in Routt and Eagle counties, and includes game management units 25, 26 and 35. Our clients enjoy exclusive hunting use of this spectacular ranch, long considered one of the finest hunting ranches in the west for trophy mule deer and elk hunting. When you combine the unbelievable hunting found on the ranch, with the advantages offered under the Ranching for Wildlife Program, it all adds up to a world class hunting opportunity! In fact the ranch borders the White River National Forest which is home to one of the largest herds of elk in the world! Limited hunting and proper game management on the ranch provides our clients with the very finest private land hunting available.

The lower portion of the ranch, around 7,000 feet, consists of large mountain hay and alfalfa meadows surrounded by cedar covered ridges. These meadows are full of feeding deer and elk early and late in the day, and the nearby cedar ridges provide great cover and bedding grounds for the game. The middle portions of the ranch are made up of rolling sage ridges and stands of aspen trees. This is ideal habitat for both deer and elk, and also provides spring calving areas for the elk. The upper areas of the ranch, between 8 and 10,000 feet, is mostly aspen and dark timber, broken up by high mountain meadows. Because the ranch is so big, nearly fifty square miles, we use 4 wheel drive vehicles and UTV’s to transport our clients to the various hunting areas on the property, and we also use ATV's to reach some of the more remote areas of the ranch. Each day the guides and clients are assigned exclusive hunting areas on the ranch, which allows them the opportunity to plan out their hunts knowing that the area is available for their use only.

During your Sunnyside hunt, you will be staying in comfortable cabins located right on the Ranch. The cabins are furnished with beds, indoor toilets, hot and cold running water, gas heat, electricity, and hot showers. We’ve found that nothing revives a hunter after a long day on the mountain, than a hot shower, a good meal and a warm bed. Hunters are required to bring their own personal gear.

All of your meals are included on the Sunnyside Hunt. Each morning you will wake up to a hearty breakfast, lunch is either back at the camp or packed for you for your days hunt. Dinners on this hunt are great, including our traditional T-Bone Tuesday open fire cook out.

We are often asked, “What is your best season to hunt?” We have scheduled our hunts with high success and quality a priority. The elk rut begins in early September and runs through the first part of October. The mule deer rut starts in late October and continues through the first part of December. A combination of heavy hunting pressure on public lands around the Ranch, and the natural migration movements of the game generally results in more deer and elk moving to the ranch throughout the hunting season. Due to our flexibility on hunting dates, we have the ability to allow the ranch to “rest” with extended breaks in between our hunts, which greatly improves the quality of our hunts. In addition to offering hunts during the rut for both deer and elk, we also offer great combination hunts for elk and deer in October and November.

The Sunnyside hunt is truly a world class hunting experience, combining breath taking scenery, comfortable accommodations, great guides and unbelievable trophy hunting for elk and mule deer. Please feel free to contact us for more information on this great opportunity!
